How To Fully Understand Your Bible - 14 Tips

This article presents fourteen tips on how to fully understand your Bible. Despite what you've heard or experienced, it's possible. Equally important, you can enjoy reading the Word. Get prepared to renew your thinking. Read 14 Tips

Acknowledge that you will gain understanding.

Taking this step first is crucial, or nothing will happen. According to the Bible, you will have what you say. So, if you keep saying "I can't understand the Bible". You'll have what you say - no understanding. Decide to speak faith, not defeat.

Seek a good teacher.

When the student is ready, the teacher appears. Hence, sitting under a good teacher will heighten your comprehension. Join a church that teaches the Bible. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. The preacher is sent to teach the flock, so approach it like a good student. Come prepared (ready to receive) with your Bible, a notepad, and a pen/pencil. Sunday School is another opportunity to learn.

Go to Bible Study.

Most churches have weekly bible study. Moreover, groups meet throughout the community in places like libraries and universities. I've even noticed a group that meets weekly at McDonald's.

Invest in concordance.

My concordance is awesome! It supplies background information on Biblical figures, explains the meaning of names, provides a historical perspective, highlights events, and more. When I run across a name or place that interests me, I refer to the concordance to discover more. By the way, you can find one in the back of your Bible.

Start with the basics.

All in all, to fully understand anything, you start by asking questions. Regarding the Word, your list might include some of the following: What is the Bible? Who wrote it? Why is it called the King James Bible? What's the history? How do the Old and New Testament differ?

Investigating the responses has advantages. Aside from elevating your competence by collecting relevant information, you'll be encouraged to dig deeper.

Read relevant books.

Several years ago, I purchased two paperbacks online that serve as handy references. One covers the Old Testament, and the other covers the New Testament.

Read different translations.

Although my main text is the King James Bible, I also use the New King James Study Bible and the New Living Translation. You decide what works for you.

Take small bites.

A word to the wise is sufficient: Don't try to read the Bible the way you read other books. Like eating a delicious meal, you need time to savor every bite.

I suggest reading a chapter a day from the book of Proverbs. Why? It's packed with wisdom, and it addresses every life issue.

Feed on it daily

Develop a habit that will be difficult to break. Work your schedule around reading the Word instead of vice versa. Read aloud. Try reading scriptures aloud. Hearing produces a different effect than reading silently. Your faith increases.

Ask questions.

Take time to pause, reflect, and ask questions. What is this scripture saying? How does it apply to my life?

Meditate on scriptures.

Suppose you run across a scripture that grabs you. Think about it as you clean, drive, walk, sit in the park, take a shower, etc. Anything you give consistent attention grows.

Utilize online resources.

Today obtaining information is a cinch due to technology. Therefore, checkout Bible Gateway and Daily Bible Living; both have the potential to enhance your appreciation.

Be led by the Spirit.

Finally, the Holy Spirit is your teacher and guide. As your read, He leads and gives insight.
